Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of CareShield, operated by Janus NW Research LLC ("we", "us", "our"). By using our service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

CareShield allows you to connect your electronic health records and view your health information, preventive care recommendations, and cost comparisons in one place. We access your records only with your explicit authorization via your healthcare provider's patient portal.

2. Not Medical Advice

CareShield is not a healthcare provider. Information presented — including care gap alerts, guideline references, and cost comparisons — is for informational purposes only. It does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult your physician or qualified healthcare provider regarding medical decisions.

3. Accuracy of Information

We display data as received from your health system's electronic records. We do not independently verify clinical data. Cost information is based on publicly-available hospital price transparency files and may not reflect your actual out-of-pocket responsibility, which depends on your specific plan, deductible status, and provider network.

4. Your Responsibilities

• You must be at least 18 years old (or have parental consent) to use this service
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your patient portal credentials
• You will not use this service to access records you are not authorized to view
• You will not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the service

5. Intellectual Property

Clinical guidelines referenced are from publicly-available sources (U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices). Hospital pricing data is published under federal mandate (45 CFR § 180). Our presentation, scoring algorithms, and user interface are proprietary.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, JANUS NW RESEARCH LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Medical decisions made based on information displayed in this service
• Inaccuracies in data received from your health system
• Temporary unavailability of the service
• Estimated costs that differ from actual billed amounts

Our total liability for any claim arising from use of this service shall not exceed $100.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Janus NW Research LLC, its officers, and agents from any claims, losses, or damages arising from your misuse of the service or violation of these Terms.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

9. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you are violating these Terms. Upon termination, we will delete your data per our Privacy Policy.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alaska. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Bethel, Alaska.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted with an updated effective date. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
